Program Goals

The overarching goals of the Master of Arts in Conscious Evolution are:

  • Learn key theories of human development (e.g., the Piagetian tradition, Wilber’s Integral Theory), and distinguish stages, states, and lines (i.e. continua) of development;

  • Establish a learning community that is governed by the principles inherent in Integral Studies (e.g., cultural, social, economic, political and personal connectivity);

  • Comprehend and analyze key theories of the nature of consciousness and how they relate to one’s understanding of evolution;

  • Empower Colleagues to perceive themselves as agents for social, cultural and personal change;

  • Develop familiarity with the history of Western philosophy, culture, and art from the perspective of consciousness development;

  • Assess differences in levels (or stages) of consciousness development and their concomitant values and worldviews, and explore the ethical and moral dimensions of behavior;

  • Identify core principles of evolution, as well as personal and societal emergence;

  • Distinguish between the evolution of consciousness and conscious evolution, and explore the ethical imperatives inherent therein;

  • Encourage and enable Colleagues to become active participants in their own conscious evolution, including experiences that lead to transformation;

  • Promote the conscious evolution of the individual, society and culture through academic research and dialogue; and

  • Conduct research that results in a broader understanding of the concepts and ideas in the field of consciousness development.
