| A New Perspective in Consciousness Studies The interrelationship of psyche and cosmos has become the basis for a new approach to the study of conscious evolution: Archetypal Cosmology. The Graduate Institute's Archetypal Cosmology Track constitutes a unique perspective in the Master of Arts in Conscious Evolution program. A single overriding question informs the study: What are the implications of a conscious Universe for the evolution of human consciousness? Combining astronomy with modern depth psychology, archetypal cosmology investigates correlations between cyclical alignments of the planets and archetypal patterns in human experience. The nature and development of human consciousness is explored against the backdrop of its cosmological environment. A variety of evolutionary models form the foundation of the study, ranging from the Neoplatonic philosophy of ancient Greece to chaos and complexity theories of post-modern science. Human change processes are examined from multiple perspectives: 1) developmental theory, 2) transpersonal psychology, 3) consciousnesses studies, 4) general systems theory, and 5) astropsychology. These realms of inquiry enable participants to identify incremental stages of growth and to anticipate how consciousness evolves through stages and crises that correlate with planetary cycles. Participants explore how human capacities emerge over time and why the evolutionary intent of the cosmos may be operative in the self-actualizing processes of the psyche. The program is especially attractive to individuals who are dedicated to evolving consciously while seeking an in-depth understanding of the scope and nature of archetypal cosmology. The course structure integrates the many facets of the field, including its astronomical and interpretive foundations. An extensive mentorship provides grounded experiences. Bohmian dialogue facilitates full development of practices that add measurable value to each participant’s understanding of content while promoting increased levels of proficiency at prescribed tasks. Colleagues who succeed in this rigorous study are required to exemplify their learning by completing an in-depth, research-based, culminating project. The Track Focused Study: (Certificate Program) The initial program offering provides six online courses of 2 credits each, which unfold over a nine month period. These courses may be taken either as a noncredit Certificate Program or as a credit bearing Certificate Program with the courses leading toward an M.A. in Conscious Evolution. Each of the first six courses is delivered online by interactive processes, including EMLs (electronically mediated learning materials), for a sub-total 144 clock hours. This provides learning through live online classes, audio files and videos, and the explication of readings with the support of the instructor. Successful certificate candidates may go on to the Master’s degree program, which consists of 24 credits of academic courses and direct experiences, including readings, written papers and other assignments for a sub-total of 288 clock hours. The Conscious Evolution Foundations: (Core Program) The Master of Arts degree includes 16 graduate credits presented as four 4-credit courses in Conscious Evolution. Its faculty consists of outstanding academics and field practitioners drawn from multiple realms of consciousness studies. They instruct and guide learning through direct teaching, conference style video interactions, online presentations, assigned readings, and other learning materials (audio files, videos, written assignments). These presenters are also featured during the symposia portion of the program. Courses are structured via syllabi to include content and assignments consistent with a focus on archetypal cosmology. The Consciousness/Experience Phase: (Experiential Investigations) A final phase (8 credits*) of study requires guided learning experiences chosen by each Colleague. Choices of study include projects in general areas of consciousness, in studies related to archetypal cosmology, or in parallel inquiries – all as approved and guided by the lead faculty and selected faculty who are able to serve the learning in content and context areas.
* CE 508 Personalized Learning and Guided Experience 4 cr., and CE 509 Culminating Action Research Report 4 cr. Four Unique Symposia Approximately every six months a unique learning event is convened at the Bethany Campus of The Graduate Institute in Connecticut. During each six day symposia (a total of 4 separate week long events), a variety of guest presenters offer intense lectures and workshops that stretch learners within the structure of the overall curriculum. Symposia are intended to intensify learning, expand horizons of knowledge, and enhance the ability to apply direct outcomes of acquired understanding. Tuition and Fees As a Certificate Program (the first 6 courses) the tuition of $4,116 is remitted in installments via credit card. A program fee of $385 and an application fee of $60 are remitted at the time of initial registration. When completed as credit bearing courses, qualified participants will have earned 12 credits toward the 36 credits required for the M.A. degree. Continuing in the degree program requires remittance of $343 per/credit for an additional 24 credits. Total tuition cost for the 36 credit degree program is $12,348. Personal expenses associated with the Symposia (travel, hotel, food, etc.), books and other learning materials are not included in the tuition amount. Additional Considerations To apply for the Masters degree, applicants are required to have earned a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school, having attained at least a 2.5 grade point average. Applicants must provide a formal statement of intent and goals, submit two letters of recommendation, and participate in a person to person interview. Highlights of the Experience Archetypal Cosmology Track Courses are offered at the beginning of the experience. Program Duration: 24 months (this accounts for four six-day symposia) Symposia: Colleagues will convene twice a year on campus in Bethany. (A local Clarion hotel will provide accommodations at reduced rates) Foundation Courses: are offered following award of the certificate. Experiential Courses including mentorship and culminating project conclude the offering. |
