Steven Horowitz, M.D.

As Chief of Cardiology (Stamford Hospital, Stamford, CT), Dr. Horowitz has undertaken the development of an exceptional complementary and experiential model of cardiac care. He serves as Director of the Integrative Cardiology program at Stamford Hospital’s Center for Integrative Medicine and Wellness. Having expanded this model to embrace diverse areas of medicine, he teaches and leads healthcare professionals in seeking new perspectives in integrative healing. He serves on the Board of Directors for Stamford Hospital’s Planetree Alliance, an organization dedicated to humanistic and patient-centered care. Dr. Horowitz was recently honored with the Planetree Alliance’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to cardiac health.

Bernie Siegel, M.D. excelled at Colgate University and Cornell University Medical College. He completed his surgical residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. While a pediatric and general surgeon in New Haven, he authored Love, Medicine and Miracles: Lessons Learned About Self-Healing from a Surgeon's Experience with Exceptional Patients, Humor and Healing, and Meditations for Difficult Times. He founded the Exceptional Cancer Patients therapy and healing program in New Haven in 1978. His book Prescriptions for Living was published by Harper Collins in 1998. Dr. Siegel’s insights on the nature of human experience and the science of medicine are integrated in his unique approach to the practice of healing, and in his view of storytelling and visual arts as paths for creating wellness.  For more information about his work, please visit www.berniesiegelmd.com/

A. Harris (Bud) Stone is the Founder and Chancellor of The Graduate Institute.  As a professor, author, researcher, and educational entrepreneur, Bud has dedicated his life to leadership in the cause of educational transformation.  He is responsible for the establishment of more than 15 graduate programs, and has authored numerous books on learning in the arts and sciences.

Shari Specland, M.A.

A licensed massage therapist with knowledge in various alternative modalities, Ms. Specland has over 25 years of experience as a practitioner of the healing arts, and has been an adamant supporter of a holistic approach to health and wellness. She has certification in Therapeutic Touch, Mother Massage, Hypnobirthing, Spa, Bodywork for the Childbearing Year, and Hypnosis. Ms. Specland is also trained in Lymph Drainage, Craniosacral Therapy, and Reflexology.

Karen Ponzio, M.A.

Karen Ponzio is a Registered Physical Therapist who works primarily as a manual therapist specializing in holistic treatment.  Karen's training and experience over the past 20 years includes craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, and muscle energy.  She has also specialized in the treatment of head and neck issues, especially headaches, temporomandibular dysfunction, and vestibular disorders.  She has been an accredited Bowen practitioner since 2008.

Karen is a 1989 graduate of Quinnipiac College and a 2008 graduate of The Graduate Institute, where her focus was directed toward the integration of literature and health and healing, primarily in the field of narrative medicine.  Karen continues to work toward her goals of encouraging and promoting wellness and healing through both the arts and the sciences, and raising awareness of the possibilities inside of us all to heal not only ourselves but the world around us in an artistic and creative manner.
