For those interested in change…

The Graduate Institute operates in collaboration with faculty from What Is Enlightenment? magazine to offer a cohort in Conscious Evolution. This cohort is an experiential learning venue for academic understanding and cultivation of a higher consciousness. Through collaborative dialogue within the learning community, committed evolutionaries explore, understand, and advance the forefront of human development. With The Institute's focus on academic excellence in emerging fields of inquiry, and What Is Enlightenment?'s leadership in evolutionary experience and thought, this two-year course of study is an opportunity to participate in the very process that is being studied—the emergence of the next stage in human evolution.

If you want to change yourself to change the world, this program is for you.

As a colleague you will:

  • explore leading integral theories of development, including Ken Wilber's AQAL approach, systems and complexity theory, and spirituality through the work of Sri Aurobindo, Teilhard de Chardin and Andrew Cohen

  • realize the potential for a positive future by grappling with the work of change makers like Duane Elgin, Brian Swimme and Elisabeth Sahtouris

  • discover the forefront of consciousness through "enlightened communication" -an evolution of discussion processes typified by Bohmian dialog- developed by Andrew Cohen for accessing higher collective wisdom

Our visiting faculty are dynamic thought leaders, including the pioneering founder of WIE?, Andrew Cohen, and award-winning theorists Dr. Don Beck and Dr. David Peat. For a list of recent visiting faculty please click here.

The Graduate Institute's mentorship program also affords colleagues the chance to spend 80 hours with world-class luminaries of their choice.

All this, combined with self-designed action research projects and interventions, make for a dynamic, empowering model of learning as our alumni can testify:

  • Kate, who is also a graduate student at MIT, is using what she has learned about the evolution of consciousness to assess how different forms of group process/collective wisdom actually work

  • Phil who works for a health department has been invited to participate in an aid project in Peru based on his knowledge of how to use Spiral Dynamics to intervene more effectively

  • Tina, a management consultant, plans to write a book and pursue a doctoral degree, following her work on what an evolutionary relationship to the erotic impulse would be in an "anything goes" post-modern world

Classes are held on eight selected weekends during the academic year at The Institute's Connecticut campus or at WIE's center in Lenox, Massachusetts, with a week-long residential session during the summer.

Conscious Evolution – What Is Enlightenment? cohort

What Is Enlightenment? is an award-winning quarterly magazine committed to the emergence of a new consciousness, culture, and philosophical framework for 21st-century society. Founded and guided by philosopher and teacher Andrew Cohen, it provides a platform for evolutionary thinkers and activists who share a sense of urgency about the need for human beings to evolve, spiritually and ethically, in order to change the world. Recently, What Is Enlightenment? has launched a speaker series, called "Voices from the Edge," to create a live forum to engage with some of the preeminent thought leaders featured in its pages.
